Wisdom

IMG_4212

When we brought Brooklyn home the other day, the first thing Emma did was kiss the stitches on her head. She didn't grimace like I did; she wasn't scared. She just gave her sister a little love because, well, that's what big sisters do... especially when they haven't seen their little sister in a few days.

When Kendall saw the shunt for the first time, she said, "That's so cool" and giggled. She gave her "Brookie" a quick hug and skipped off to play.

I know they don't totally get it, but in many ways, they get it so much more than I do.

They teach me so much, these little ones.

Love. Acceptance. Peace.

This isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be complicated.

I am learning that life isn't always about totally "getting it" because let's face it, sometimes "it" just doesn't make sense at all. And many times, "it" just isn't fair.

"It" is about finding the love, the joy, the giggle.

And then trusting that in time, the understanding will come.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah 55:8-9

Oh, I'm just in tears. I know just what you mean. Lisa, you are such an inspiration to me. And so are my kids, too. Oh to see with their hearts.

Amen. I often wonder how much we can ever truly understand because God always does what he says, it just doesn't look like what we expect. Kids just have that trust in love and peace and joy...

I am so glad you have your little darling at home safe and sound. I teach children everyday and they are truly amazing. I do agree that sometimes they do understand things that we may be fighting to understand. However, we have to remember that children are made up of us, they have a little of their own personality but they have a lot of ours and so we have to give ourselves a little kiss on the brain when our children do things that are so sweet, or kind, or just plain smart. Yes, they are learning from our example and by setting the right example they are able to follow it smoothly. I like the scripture you shared at Isaiah 55:8-9. It is true that somethings Jehovah God knows that we do not but in due time he does reveal them to us. Psalm 83:18 is a great scripture to go along with yours. Please continue to enjoy each and every moment with your children and instruct them about the Bible. Proverb 22:6 "Train up a boy according to the way for him even when he grows old he will not turn aside from it." May you be rewarded for all your efforts to help your children to grow up and be great adults like yourself. Have a great day! :)

Lisa, you are the bravest, most courageous person I've ever met. Did I mention positive? You are such and inspiration. Brooklyn is so dear and I just can't wait to see who she's going to be. Anyone who has gone through and will go through what she has and will is going to astound us all with her strength and contribution. I know those with "disabilities" are sent here specifically to teach us something about ourselves and what we could (should) be. My niece Chloe (who only lived for 2 and a half months) taught us about perseverance and courage. She was valiant. It was a brilliant example of the basic inextinguishable desire to live in spite of it all.

Considering some of the callous views towards the most vulnerable among us, those who survive serve to bring a very worthwhile and weighty message. Life may not be fair, but all life is good.

My kids teach me so much - every day. I understand why Jesus talked about becoming like a little child. Children are so giving, so forgiving, so accepting, and so serene (even in the midst of trying circumstances).

Thank you for continuing to share your story.
