Want a sure-fire way to find out if your child truly has a food allergy? Well, simply buy soy milk instead of rice milk, give said poison to your unsuspecting toddler, and watch as the reaction unfolds. Even better, don't realize it until after you have given her three 6-oz servings of it and she has developed the most horrible diaper rash on the planet -- and the smelliest diapers in all the land.
Yes, we now officially have confirmation that Emma does indeed react to soy milk. And I even have my Mom to verify this, especially the smelly diaper part. Oh and that poor, poor little butt was so very sore. My mom said Desitin almost wouldn't stick to it. Ouch!
I remember during one visit to the GI, Dr. N jokingly told Jeff to give Emma something I thought she reacted to without telling me. In other words, a lot of this may be in my head. While I feel there may be some truth to this little theory, I can now officially say that in this case, I saw the reaction BEFORE I even knew what I did. So ha, Dr. N! I'm not crazy!!!
Oh wait, I did buy the wrong milk, didn't I...
Nevermind.

Aw, poor little tushie. Live and Learn! Now you know right?
That is exactly what happens to the Beast's poor bottom if she eats any kind of berry, oranges (this includes juice, even diluted), and some pickles (for some reason, KFC's pickles burn her face and bottom!). It's horrible going through the trial and error of it all, but I think we have it all down now. When she was about 8 months I gave her baby peaches and we ended up in the ER, I still haven't tried with those again, because I'm afraid to!
Poor little Emma.
Ooooooooohhhhhhhh!!! Poor thing! Don't beat yourself up too much tho, you didn't do it on purpose and it was completely an accident! I bet you'll double, maybe even triple check the carton from now on tho, huh? Love you both! XOXOXO
You probably already have this receipe but in case you don't Dr. Doug has a concoction for the best butt cream.
1 part A & D ointment or Vasoline
1 part Mylanta liquid
1 part Lotrimin(the kind you use for a yeast infection)
1 part Hydrocortisone
Mix together and keep in fridge because cold cream feels good on raw bottoms. It's known as "magic butt cream" really try it!
Oh poor bummy! But hey, concrete proof can be a good thing to prove your sanity. Although I never thought you were crazy!
I gave Cricket soy beans and he had instead red tush, a nasty pooh, the smell is a dead give away, but very yucky looking too. I'm more fearful of soy than dairy these days with him.
Food allergies are so difficult to detect -- esp in young children. Unless you want to do a LONG elimination diet, trial and error works too. Hope her little tushy is better soon....
I tested my youngest kids allergies by sneaking the food into the diet without telling him. Poor kid. On one he doubled over in pain for half a day. The other, he projectile vomited everything he ate across the room. I felt like the worst mom. And here I thought he was just a picky eater :( We all learn from our mistakes though! So don't feel too bad. I have done the same things too.
